Undereye Makeup For Mature Skin!

This has got to be one of the hardest things to get right as we get older. I feel your frustrations! I have done RIDICULOUS amounts of testing and come up with what I believe to be the most effective approach for aging undereyes. Additionally, I just so happen to have the DRIEST undereyes known to man. I can literally apply layer upon layer of moisture and amaze the world at how quickly it disappears! Makeup application also needs to change as our skin matures. With that being said, I believe this is the best way to ensure the best looking undereyes possible.
Step 1: Skin Prep
If you are like me and have extremely dry eyes and like to slather on the moisture, that could be part of the problem. A lot of the eye creams don't play well with concealers, this will lead to creasing. My go-to favorite is the Half and Half fluid moisturizer from Prequel. It is very thin and milky, but packed full of peptides and moisture to plump and prep the skin. I personally do two rounds of this moisturizer under my eyes before makeup.

Step 2: Color Corrector if Needed
This may not be a necessary step for everyone, but for those that need it, a very small amount of color corrector only on the darkest part of the undereye will help to use less concealer. The goal here will be to use as little product as possible of all of it. More product will probably mean more creasing. Blend this out well, avoiding getting close to the eye if possible. The closer to the eye, the increased likelihood of settling into wrinkles and creasing. As for brands, Natasha Denona and Kosas are very good options.

Step 3: Concealer
Now you have to only use a very small amount of concealer. After you have color corrected, you should see a lot of improvement in the dark circles. You should already be looking a lot lighter. So just a very small amount of concealer should do the trick. Remember, the goal is to use as little as possible. Place it like the picture below, and blend it out. You can always add more if you need to, but try to use as little as possible, also avoiding going up to the lash line. There will be some shadowing at the lash line, but to be honest this will add depth and is easily covered with eyeliner, shadow or bronzer (whatever your preferred eye makeup method is will work just fine).

Step 4: Wait and Blend Again
After you have applied and blended out your concealer, it's best if you can, to wait 30 seconds to a minute and blend it out again. This will ensure that you get any product that wants to settle into lines, smoothed out.
Step 5: Setting
Setting is where dry, sad undereyes usually happens. I would really recommend only setting with setting spray if at all possible. My preferred method is to spray a matte setting spray that behaves like a powder onto a brush and gently press onto my concealer. I find that this allows a solid set of the concealer, while not looking cakey. This Charlotte Tillbury spray will do a great job. You will still want to set your whole face, and as someone with dry skin I would only use this one under my eyes. I would use a more dewy setting spray for my face. Additionally, I would not use the same brush for concealer and setting unless you wash it every time. I would have one brush dedicated to setting as the setting spray will change the effectiveness of the brush.

If You Still Feel Like You Have to Have Powder:
If you feel like you absolutely need to use a powder, I have tried ALL of them. This one is absolutely the best, and if I am going to be having a very long or sweaty day, I will use this one. It is very good and will minimze creasing, it is just not quite as effective as setting spray only. My preferred method is a fluffy brush that is gently pressed into a very light dusting of the powder. Then gently press onto the concealer. DO NOT SWIPE OR BRUSH! It is so important that you only gently press, otherwise the brush will likely start to lift the concealer.

Closing Thoughts
This may seem like a lot, but I promise once you do it a few times, it will easily become a part of your routine and you won't even think twice. I'm working on a tutorial video that I hope to have posted soon! Feel free to send me a message on socials, or in our community to let me know your thoughts on this process!
